“Sustainable Social Commitment to the Labour and Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities”

At Grupo Siro, we have set ourselves the goal of being a company that society wants to exist thanks to the economic and social impact of our business model. We strive to bring value to our stakeholders based on relationships upheld by stability, transparency, trust, fairness and efficiency. Through our Sustainable Social Commitment, we seek to return to society part of what society gives to us.

The social and labour integration of Persons at Risk of Exclusion is our main hallmark and the cornerstone of our Sustainable Social Commitment. At present, 14% of our employees belong to this group. We have three Special Employment Centres - in Venta de Baños (Palencia), Paterna (Valencia) and Jaen - and a work enclave in Medina del Campo (Valladolid). Over 70% of the people who work at these centres - in positions related to production, warehousing, logistics, supply and general services - have some kind of disability.

Various organisations help us develop this commitment through partnerships. They include Foro Inserta-Fundación ONCE, Fundación Secretariado Gitano, Confederación Coordinadora Estatal de Minusválidos Físicos de España (COCEMFE), Federación Castellano Leonesa de Empresas de Inserción (FECLEI) and ASPAYM Castilla y León.

Furthermore, we maintain close relationships with authorities and institutions with ties to sport, such as the National Sports Council, supporting sponsorship of the Spanish Paralympic Team under the ADOP Plan. We believe it is essential to continue working towards an inclusive and therefore sustainable society for all, supporting sport and Paralympic athletes and thereby strengthening our commitment to overcoming adversity, discipline, equal opportunities, effort and perseverance.

In 2016, the year in which Grupo Siro celebrated its 25th anniversary and Galletas Siro celebrated its centenary, we were privileged to receive various awards as a result of our activity stemming from this commitment:

“Best Company for Employees with Disability”, an international award received at the United Nations Headquarters in New York for our track record in terms of the social and labour integration of persons at risk of social exclusion. This award not only enabled us to highlight our commitment but also to position Spanish initiatives as international benchmarks in this field. The award was presented by the São Paulo State Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and only two Spanish companies were among the recipients, Grupo Siro and ILUNION. The award also coincided with the 10th Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Bronze Medal for Sports Merit, presented by the Presidency of the National Sports Council for our support for Spanish Paralympic sport under the ADOP Plan. Grupo Siro thus joins the Royal Order of Sports Merit. Our Chairman, Juan Manuel González Serna, received the award from the Spanish Minister for Education, Culture and Sport, Iñigo Méndez de Vigo.

At a regional level, we received the Castile-Leon Human and Social Values Award on 22 April 2016. This stemmed from a unanimous decision from the panel regarding recognition of our activity and commitment to the region, as well as our commitment to and involvement in ethical and social issues.

Finally, coinciding with our Adhesion to the European and Spanish Pact for Youth promoted by the European Commission and CSR Europe, and led in Spain by Forética, we should also highlight that our Labour and Social Integration of Persons with Disabilities initiative was selected by this organisation to form part of the European Enterprise 2020 programme.
